Barcelona Medals of Honour 2025
Created in 1997 to mark the centenary of the aggregation of the towns in the Barcelona plan, these awards are intended to distinguish people and organisations that have contributed to public awareness, virtues and social values.
The Full Council has agreed to award the Barcelona Medals of Honour 2025 to the people and organisations proposed by the districts and municipal groups.
City category
- Fermí Puig (posthumously): for his defence of Catalan cuisine, his cultural dignity and value as living heritage, with an educational spirit and great generosity.
- Òscar Muñoz (posthumously): for his legacy within journalism, as an example of good practice and for his contribution in the sphere of local information, as a privileged space in the media.
- Rafel Jordana: for his work at the head of the Bodega d’en Rafel, constituting an essential contribution to Barcelona’s cultural, social and gastronomic heritage.
- Montserrat Úbeda (posthumously): in recognition of her proactive work at the head of the Llibreria Ona and her defence of the survival of books, Catalan and bookshops as spaces for culture, knowledge and identity.
- Comunitat de clarisses del Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes: for their community work linked to the city of Barcelona for nearly 700 years, and as a spiritual pillar of the monastery in Pedralbes.
District Councils
Ciutat Vella
- Escola Vedruna Àngels, for their 150th anniversary, and their historical, social and educational commitment to the neighbourhood of El Raval.
- Maite Roca, as a key figure in the social and cultural fabric of El Raval, her life path committed to the community, the defence of historical memory and the active promotion of traditional and participatory culture.
L’Eixample
- Pepa Serra, for her local contribution and participation with initiatives aimed at child welfare, as chair of Camí Amic, and also for defending women’s rights as the spokeswoman for the Associació de Veïns de Sant Antoni.
- Esbart Gaudí, on their 75th anniversary, for their trajectory devoted to recovering, maintain and promoting Catalan popular dance and folk traditions.
Sants-Montjuïc
- Diego García, for his commitment to the local community in La Marina and his dedication to making the city a friendlier and more cohesive place.
- Associació de Veïns Badal-Brasil-Bordeta, for their trajectory devoted to local residents and standing up for the recovery of local heritage for use by local people, as well as their work for neighbourhood cohesion.
Les Corts
- ADECO Catalunya, for its task helping people at risk of exclusion, children and families, as a leading organisation in social and care work.
- Grup Mou-te Les Corts, for its promotion of women’s physical and emotional health, through community movements and activities, and to offer a space for socialisation and mutual support.
Sarrià – Sant Gervasi
- Jose Luis Lorente, for his devotion to the local struggle in favour of the development of facilities and resources in the mountain neighbourhood, particularly the Rectoret neighbourhood.
- Associació veïnal Sant Gervasi – la Bonanova, for their 50th anniversary and their work in favour of improving life condition for local residents, from fostering coexistence to respect and sustainability.
Gràcia
- Club Bàsquet Coll, in recognition of its exemplary trajectory and firm commitment to social values, cohesion and community development in the neighbourhood of El Coll.
- Elvira Altés, as an example in the sphere of the media, teaching and research, always committed to the defence of women’s rights.
Horta-Guinardó
- Xarxa de Dones Cosidores, for their work in favour of women, developed through a community labour insertion space.
- Antonio Novalbos, in recognition of his work in the realm of public participation in the neighbourhood of El Carmel, particularly in favour of people with disabilities.
Nou Barris
- Sandor Martín, for his boxing career, characterised by effort and self-improvement, and for promoting the name of Nou Barris everywhere.
- Alberto Vila, for his work at the head of the Institut Tecnològic de Barcelona, an education project for vocational training and taking technology into the neighbourhoods in the district, particularly Trinitat Nova.
Sant Andreu
- Centre d’Estudis Ignasi Iglésias, for being a cornerstone for the historical memory of the district, an example of cohesion and identity in the district of Sant Andreu.
- Antònia Luengo, for her career promoting contemporary music and highlighting the role of women in music, directing the Women’s Band of Catalonia and Symphony Band of Barcelona.
Sant Martí
- Mercedes Alvira, for her commitment to social and community work, from public employment to build a fairer, more equal, inclusive and cohesive city.
- Comissió Memòria i Gènere, in recognition its work to reestablish women’s historical memory, giving it visibility in public space and generating knowledge.
