Over 17,500 subsidies to foster extra-curricular sport in 2025
Barcelona awarded 17,570 extra-curricular sports subsidies in 2025, with an overall investment of 4.6 million euros. Aimed at children and young people from 6 to 17, the subsidies strengthen municipal backing for accessible and inclusive sport in all neighbourhoods.
This year saw 17,570 subsidies awarded to help children and young people take part in physical activities outside of school hours. The Barcelona Institute of Sport (IBE) devoted 4.6 million euros to these subsidies during the 2025-2026 school year.
Aimed at families with minors aged from 6 to 17, the idea behind the subsidies is to ensure that no child has to stop doing sport for financial reasons. Nou Barris is the district with the most subsidies awarded, followed by Sant Martí, Horta-Guinardó and Sant Andreu.
With this latest call, Barcelona reaffirms its backing for accessible, inclusive and educational sport and continues consolidating its position as a city that looks after and promotes sports activity from an early age.
