Barcelona is organising a new series of activities in the autumn to bring the world of science closer to the neighbourhoods. Barcelona City Council and the delegation of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Catalonia are launching the “Ciència Km 0” cycle this October. It consists of ten sessions (round tables, lectures, workshops and routes), conducted in collaboration with the city’s network of libraries and community centres. The sessions start on 8 October and will be held on Wednesday (except 16 October which is Thursday) afternoons at 6 pm, until 10 December.

The activity cycle is aimed at adults and young people over the age of 16, in an effort to promote scientific education in all stages of life. Participating in the programme will be researchers from projects subsidised by Barcelona City Council, as well as staff from the CSIC Catalonia.

The activities are all free and address three main themes: innovative technology, pollution and health. The content highlights, for instance, the importance of chips in everyday life, the effects that air quality has on health and the benefits of urban green spaces in helping retain water and conserve biodiversity.
