Citizen Science present in "La Festa de la Ciència"

A specific space will include dissemination of participatory research projects

16/05/2025 16:26 h

The Science Festival “La Festa de la Ciència” once again includes a space dedicated exclusively to Citizen Science projects. These are initiatives from the world of research that involve citizens. A methodology that is on the rise and that achieves, among others, two things: broadening and making the data to be analyzed more robust, and introducing citizens to different fields of science and research systems.

The city of Barcelona has a Citizen Science office. A space that, on the one hand, advises and accompanies scientists who are considering participatory proposals, and on the other, develops actions aimed at bringing this research closer to citizens. All of this falls within the framework of the Strategic Plan for Science and Innovation 2024-2027.

9 different activities

The Citizen Science Space 8, located in the Plaça Comercial and focused solely on Citizen Science, will include a total of 9 activities that will take place on Saturday (May 31). These are demonstrations and practical workshops that will be included in two time slots:

– 4 between 11:30 am and 2:00 pm

– And 5 more between 4:30 pm and 7:00 pm

Among these various initiatives aimed at people from the age of 6, you can learn, for example, how to do a butterfly census, in the Parc de la Ciutadella, and delve into its diversity, through a walk organized by CREAF. You can also practice detecting smells, and in this way help discover those substances that are most harmful and pollute the environment, through an olfactory kit that will show and define Science for Change. Or find out what we can do to reduce the impacts of a natural disaster such as a flood, and how we can also contribute to research.
