Collaboration agreement with the Palestinian city of Ramallah

The mayors of Barcelona and Ramallah sign a first agreement on international cooperation between the two cities as part of the project District 11, Cities of Palestine. With this signature and the launch of District 11, the ties between Barcelona and Ramallah enter a more intense stage of work.

The memorandum of understanding aims to promote institutional development, modernise the administration of municipal services and drive tech development. It will facilitate collaboration in spheres such as:

  • Urban development and metropolitan planning.
  • Management and treatment of public space and green zones.
  • Smart cities, tourism and innovation.
  • Cultural, sports and educational initiatives linked to young people and women.

The agreement is valid for four years, with the possibility of renewing it.

The Mayor of Ramallah, Issa Kassis, expressed his thanks and announced they have decided to name a street after the City of Barcelona.

An international cooperation agreement should also soon be signed with the city of Bethlehem to set out humanitarian action, economic support and promotion of the city. In addition, active coordination will be maintained with the Association of Palestinian Municipalities (APLA) to add the rest of Palestinian councils in work and training.

District 11, Cities of Palestine

District 11, Cities of Palestine represents a significant step up in the model of cooperation and collaboration with the cities of Palestine and strengthens and stabilises technical and humanitarian support and the economic promotion of the area.

The project promotes and coordinates the participation of technical specialists from Barcelona City Council who form part of the cooperation teams with Palestinian cities and collaborate stably on the development and implementation of projects both on the ground and by taking in Palestinian professionals for training in Barcelona.

District 11, Cities of Palestine also channels the initiatives promoted by the civil society to help Palestinian cities.
