Eduardo Rojo Torrecilla becomes the new chair of the Economic and Social Council of Barcelona

Rojo Torrecilla, a retired professor in Labour Law and Social Security and honorary professor of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), will take over from Francesc Castellana, who was elected as the chair in 2021. The plenary meeting by the CESB approved the election of the new chair for a period of four years, with all groups voting in favour.

Eduardo Rojo Torrecilla has also been a tenured professor at the University of Barcelona and a full professor at the University of Girona. During his academic career, he taught the theory and practice of Law, the diploma in Economic and Business Sciences, Labour Sciences and Business Administration and Management. He has also taught on various master’s, postgraduate courses and additional university courses at several Spanish university. He has given over 180 speeches at various congresses and meetings and over 240 lectures in the sphere of his professional activity.

Other outstanding merits include his role as the director and coordinator of databases on employment policies in Catalonia, Spain, the EU and internationally, commissioned by Barcelona Provincial Council; he has been part of the body of arbitrators for the Labour Tribunal of Catalonia (TAL), arbitrator in trade union elections in the province of Girona, and director of the scientific committee tasked with drafting the General Employment Plan of Catalonia (2006-2008). He has also been the coordinator for the study group on access to the labour market (from November 2009 to February 2008), part of the preparation and drafting of the document providing the base for the National Immigration Pact of Catalonia.
