The main theme for this second edition is “Communities as agents of change”, the idea being to take a more detailed look at how women experience spirituality within communities and how they get organised and act with a transformational perspective.

In this respect, the meetings seek to emphasise how women believers experience faith and beliefs within communities and how their relationships generate a framework for people to grow and gain recognition. The intention is also to highlight the everyday task of women in the various confessions and advance in terms of gender equity, the fight against gender inequalities and violence and discrimination towards women, and the defence of their political, social and economic rights.

This year’s edition, with the registration period open until 16 June, presents other new aspects: eight days instead of two, more spaces where activities in the programme will be held, extending it beyond the monastery and reaching more places in the city such as the Trinitat Vella Community Life Centre and the Hillsong Barcelona offices. It also includes virtual live debates with women who have generated large international communities on social media. The event involves a more diverse public, with something for people of all ages.

There are also two curators on this occasion, with the curator from the first edition, Montse Castellà i Olivé joined by Jenabou Dembaga Susoko.

Women’s perspective and the broad religious plurality in Barcelona

The meetings are the result of various collaborations between the Monastery of Pedralbes and the Office for Religious Affairs. They respond to the shared goal of exploring the relationship between women and spirituality, fostering dialogue and giving recognition to women’s reality, often invisible within religious traditions. These meetings are held annually, centring on women and religion and spirituality and addressing a specific theme every year.

There are over 980 religious communities and organisations from 28 different traditions in the city, with many women among the thousands of believers.
