First prototype education platform in the city to use auditable open-source software
The DD platform has been developed through the joint work of Xnet, the City Council and the Barcelona Education Consortium. Usability in this pioneering initiative equates to that of the most widely used platforms. The main difference is that as it uses auditable open-source software, DD guarantees interoperability and the sovereignty of student data. The pilot project includes guides to help schools understand the application of the legal framework to defend their digital rights. The project not only helps schools go digital, but also guarantees the digital rights of all those involved: students, teaching staff and families. In addition, the platform aims to offer a public alternative to the instruments offered by tech giants.
Municipal support to extend the project
During the process of development, implementation, capacitation and rollout, which started in February 2021, Xnet has been working with three schools in the city: the Escola Montseny, the Escola Àngel Baixeras and the Institut Maria Espinalt. Participants in the process include a group of promotor families, the Catalan Associations of Federated Student Families (aFFaC) and IsardVDI and 3iPunt as development companies.
Barcelona City Council has now reaffirmed its support so that the pilot project can be rolled out in new schools and municipal facilities with training activities, such as libraries, community centres and other municipal facilities.
Introducing the DD platform
The education community can take part in free open workshops being held at the Canòdrom Digital Innovation and Democracy Centre from 7 to 12 February, to become familiar with the DD platform.
