Boosting Catalonia’s startup ecosystem in the US, Singapore, Portugal and Finland

The International Economic Promotion Directorate and Barcelona Activa, in partnership with the Generalitat de Catalunya through ACCIÓ, have supported around fifty Catalan startups and ten investors, helping them secure space and visibility at some of the world’s leading entrepreneurship and technology fairs in San Francisco, Singapore, Lisbon and Helsinki.

At SWITCH in Singapore, seven startups and deep-tech ecosystem organisations took part, including the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). Sixteen companies attended the Web Summit in Lisbon, one of Europe’s most important tech events for startups. At TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, eight startups used the renowned fair as a springboard to expand internationally in the global heart of entrepreneurship. Finally, fifteen companies participated in SLUSH, the leading startup fair in northern Europe.

At each fair, Catalan companies increased their visibility by exhibiting in their own space and holding scheduled meetings, which helped them make the most of the opportunities offered by the events and business ecosystems. Networking events and promotional activities were also organised to showcase Barcelona and Catalonia’s tech and innovation ecosystem.

This work builds on the collaboration with ACCIÓ, which is part of the Barcelona-Catalonia Startup Ecosystem launched in 2022. The aim of this initiative is to strengthen Barcelona and Catalonia’s position as one of Europe’s leading startup hubs.
