Institutional and commercial mission to Hong Kong and Shenzhen

Turisme de Barcelona is sending a delegation to Hong Kong and Shenzhen to meet the region’s main representatives for economy and tourism after China ended the restrictions for the pandemic. The goal is to pave the way for the re-opening of the Chinese market before it opens up definitively, which is likely to happen in the second half of this year.

The mission coincides with the exhibition by the Fundació Miró at the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the institutional trip by the Area for Economic Promotion at the City Council, to recover and strengthen commercial ties and institutional diplomacy with China.

The delegation has an institutional agenda, headed by the City Council, and a more commercial agenda for ties with operators, where Turisme de Barcelona comes in. Notable meetings include those with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Cathay Pacific, EGL Tours and Travel Circle International.

After Hong Kong, delegates will visit Shenzhen, a city twinned with Barcelona, where meetings are planned with the Mayor’s Office and the World Innovative Cities Cooperation Organization (WICCO), as well as meetings on commercial relationships with different companies.

China is the first destination for Turisme de Barcelona after the institutional mission to South Korea last summer and a series of 22 actions on the Asian market, spearheading the strategy to open up the most interesting markets for the city which had been closed down as a result of the pandemic.

Other actions to come include a familiarisation trip with a group of gastronomy experts, and another with twenty tourist operators coming to Barcelona from different parts of China.
