Renovation of the Cooperativa El Segle XX building under way
Work is now under way to turn the Cooperativa El Segle XX building into a public facility for the Barceloneta neighbourhood. Located at C/ Atlantida, 1-3, the building is set to get a complete revamp of its four floors and 682 square metres of space, turning it into a cultural and training space for community, with a multi-purpose hall, a meeting area, a function room with a stage, technical room, seating, a changing room, a radio room, a chroma studio and a video editing suite.
The project is expected to take 16 months. During that time the foundations and structure will be reinforced and work will be carried out to renovate the walls, windows and doors, and to update all facilities including the connecting areas, making the building more accessible and fully functional for community activities in the neighbourhood of Barceloneta.
The revamp entails a budget of 3.7 million euros, which forms part of an investment package of 31 million euros agreed for this term of office with local people, addressing some of the long-standing demands of the neighbourhoods. The investment will help boost the maintenance of public space, renew urban furniture, improve public facilities and the public housing stock in the neighbourhood. 70% of these investments are already being executed.
