Founded in Barcelona by Josep Zendrera a century ago, the company has published nearly ten thousand books in Catalan and Spanish, focusing on books for children and young readers. The company currently has a presence in forty countries and has distribution in Latin America and the USA.

Ambassadors for Tintín

Notable names in the publishing company’s catalogue include Els cinc, by Enid Blyton, Contes per telèfon, by Gianni Rodari, and Les aventures de Tintín, published without interruption since 1958. The founder’s daughter and leading figure in publishing in the Spanish state, Conxita Zendrera, was responsible for some of the company’s biggest successes.

The publishing company has also been responsible for some iconic books, such as the first Catalan and Spanish editions of Peter Pan i Wendy and Alícia en terra de meravelles, as well as some of the first translations of international authors such as Zweig, Curwood, Andersen and the Brothers Grimm.

A hundred years of history

From the outset, the publishing company worked with Catalan authors such as Marià Manent, Josep Maria Folch i Torres, Josep Carner and Carles Riba, and with illustrators as important as Joan Junceda, Lola Anglada and Elvira Elías.

The Biblioteca Jaume Fuster is joining in with the centenary celebrations with the exhibition “Les aventures de l’Editorial Joventut”, with historical documents and graphic content combining curiosity and memory.
