Limits on supermarket opening hours at night in Ciutat Vella

Supermarkets in ten streets in Ciutat Vella where excessive noise levels have been recorded at night will be unable to open between 10 pm and 7 am. The measure has been introduced by Barcelona City Council to respect local people’s hours of rest and make this compatible with activity at these commercial establishments. In parallel, the ban on skating in Plaça dels Àngels has been extended a further two hours and will now be in place from 10 pm to 9 am.

Supermarkets in the following streets will be unable to open at night between the hours of 10 pm and 7 pm.

  • Joaquín Costa
  • Paloma
  • Tigre
  • Guifré
  • Peu de la Creu
  • Carme
  • Escudellers
  • Nou de Sant Francesc
  • Nou de Zurbano

The measure will also apply to establishments of the same type which open in the future. The prohibition is to avoid large gatherings of people outside establishments at night and reduce noise.

Limits on skating

In front of the MACBA, in Plaça dels Àngels, the ban on skating is also being extended to respect local residents’ hours of rest. The current ban has been in place since 2019 and limits skating between 10 pm and 7 am. The extra two hours means the ban will now be from 10 pm to 9 am.
