More services and more staff for a clean and safe summer
Extra municipal services are being laid on with the arrival of the summer. City Police patrols are being stepped up, with officers on hand to guarantee respect in public space and nearly a hundred extra cleaning teams will keep the city in optimal condition, with services also activated at the beaches.
Some 200 traditional, cultural and sports activities are expected in the city during the summer of 2025, as well as a large number of visitors. Because of this, Barcelona City Council is launching a special rollout as part of the Pla Endreça, with measures in public space to keep it in the best condition possible.
More City Police
The Beach Section of the City Police will be operational from now until the end of September, carrying out prevention and other policing tasks along the city coast. Nearly 80 officers will be patrolling Barcelona’s ten beaches with the goal of stepping up police presence. The corps will be operating on land, but also at sea, with the new rigid Ona boat.
The summer operation, in coordination with the Mossos d’Esquadra police corps, contemplates an additional 200 officers a day, ensuring levels of mobility, coexistence and respect for others. June will also see 110 new officers from the latest intake joining the force.
The City Police will also be intensifying the Pla Visibilitat in the summer, particularly ALFA traffic control points and BETA preventive surveillance points, plus the usual operations on the prevention of gender and LGBTI-phobic violence.
Forest campaign and sea rescue
The Civil Protection, Fire Prevention and Extinction and Rescue Service (SPCPEIS) is present on the coast at the advanced logistical point at the Port Olímpic. This space is especially geared towards swift intervention in the bathing area by the water rescue group of the Barcelona Fire Service, made up of 30 professionals and three boats.
The SPCPEIS has also stepped up its presence in the forest area of Collserola with the opening of the fire station in Vallvidrera. The number of vehicles and firefighters based there has been increased this year, with four new all-terrain pick-up vehicles and an advanced life support ambulance adapted to mountain terrain.
Noise reduction
The summer will see 53 promotion staff operating in night-life areas, terraces and squares to reduce noise generated by busy premises in public areas, the use of musical instruments and other types of noise that can cause inconvenience to local residents.
Limits will also apply to 164 festival spaces during the summer, to curb noise and reduce its impact for nearby homes, with six mediation specialists activated at night from Thursday to Saturday.
More cleaning teams
Cleaning and waste collection services will be boosted all over the city until October, with more intensive cleaning in spaces which get more use in the summer. A further 234 workers will be added, distributed into 99 teams, in addition to the usual teams.
Litter bins will be emptied more often and cleaning with water stepped up, particularly in the afternoons. Waste collections for sizeable items will be more frequent too, as will the cleaning of containers, inside and out. At the beaches, the surface of the water will be cleaning, with manual cleaning also carried out at the groynes.
Beaches fully operational
Beach services are operational with times and staff corresponding to the high season, which will run until 11 September. The rescue and life-saving service will be operating from 10.30 am to 7.30 pm with a total of 54 lifeguards and 21 watchtowers.
The assisted bathing service has also been improved this year and is available at the Barceloneta, Nova Icària and Bogatell beaches, as well as the bathing area at the Fòrum. These service points have basic accessibility infrastructures and their staff help people with disabilities to get in and out of the sea and enjoy bathing.
The beaches have an information service for members of the public, centring on the organisation of sport uses at the beaches, information on smoke-free beaches and awareness relating to sexist violence, plus general information on services.
