Nearly 85,000 at the third “Viu Montjuïc”

The third edition of “Viu Montjuïc” was held this weekend, with over 60 cultural and free time activities for all types of people: from guided routes around Montjuïc to dance shows, theatre, concerts, exhibitions and open days at facilities. Estimates put the number of people who enjoyed the “Viu Montjuïc” activities at nearly 85,000.

The facilities which attracted the most visitors were Poble Espanyol, with 30,000 people, Montjuïc Castle, with 15,200, CaixaFòrum, with 5,700, the Fundació Joan Miró, with 5,500 and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, with 3,500.

Also worth noting was the success of the various routes organised over the weekend, offering new ways of seeing Montjuïc. Good examples here were Parlar amb les plantes, organised by the Teatre Lliure, Montjuïc Cemetery and the Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món; L’art de caminar, the result of collaboration between the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya and Montjuïc Castle, and the opening of Montjuïc 360º, which over 200 people took part in. Montjuic 360º is the first footpath to be certified by the Federació d’Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya (FEEC) and which covers a route entirely with the city of Barcelona. The path is part of the Master Plan for Paths in the Parc de Montjuïc, created by Barcelona City Council.

The initiative “Viu Montjuïc, el Parc de la Cultura” was conceived with the idea of coordinating the different cultural stakeholders in Montjuïc and is jointly organised and funded by the facilities there, the District of Sants-Montjuïc, the Barcelona Institute of Culture and the Fourth Deputy Mayor’s Office for Economy, Tax, Economic Promotion and Tourism, which uses funds from the tourist tax to drive initiatives to improve recreation and the enjoyment of a quality green and cultural public space, aimed particularly at local people in Barcelona.

The first edition of “Viu Montjuïc” was held in October 2021 and was a resounding success, attracting 37,000 people. The second edition, held in October last year, practically doubled the number of visitors, with over 60,000 people enjoying the cultural and free time options offered.
