Mobility will be affected by the inauguration of the new Via Laietana

On Sunday, 29 June, the avenue will be closed to traffic from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm for a major community celebration to mark the completion of the renovation works, with family activities, music and workshops. Following the festivities, the avenue will reopen to traffic in both directions on Sunday evening, including the reinstatement of circulation towards the mountain. It will be limited to public transport and local traffic only, in line with the new mobility setup for Via Laietana.

The main goal of the transformation of Via Laietana is to gain pedestrian space and reduce the space used by private vehicles, with a significant increase in the width of pavements to at least 4 metres, and a reduction from five to three traffic lanes. Priority has been given to public transport and the use of bicycles, with an exclusive ascending bike lane and another lane shared with buses and taxis on the descending side.

For circulation on the descending side, two lanes are open along the length of the street, from Pl. Urquinaona to Pg. Colom. One is a bus lane, shared with taxis and bicycles, and the other is a traffic lane with a 30 km/h speed limit and no access restrictions. The ascending lane in Via Laietana has signage indicating the prohibition on circulation except for authorised vehicles. This means that only public transport, local residents and those accessing vehicle repair shops, car parks, hotels, hostels and guesthouses may use it. Access is also permitted for users of the Santa Caterina Market logistics platform, and for properly registered urban freight delivery vehicles, but only at specific times and only as far as Antoni Maura.

As for public transport, from Monday, 30 June, TMB bus line 47 will connect to L’Eixample via the ascending lane on Via Laietana. On the descending side, lines 47 and 59, as well as lines V15, V17 and neighbourhood bus line 120, will continue to operate.
