The summer break saw 115 projects carried out around 94 facilities. These projects and the action planned up until the end of 2025 are aimed at guaranteeing high standards and achieving similar schooling conditions at all primary and secondary schools in Barcelona.

The other goal of the improvements at schools is to create a local education map that offers a cohesive and accessible school network everywhere.

Type of improvements

Yearly measures include renewing furniture, revamping kitchens and dining rooms, works on accessibility, improvements to paving, toilets and changing rooms, plus work on paint and markings.

Besides this maintenance, which this year involves 11 projects around 79 schools, with an investment of 25.2 million euros, other notable projects include:

  • Climate improvements as part of the Barcelona School Climate Plan: This will entail work at a further 30 schools in 2025, with a total of 170 schools to be fitted with air-conditioning by 2029.
  • New education constructions: This entails an overall investment of 7.5 million euros, for example, for the construction of the definitive building for the Institut Vallcarca; the completion of the Escola 9 Graons, and the annual modular growth of schools with provisional bases (Escola Teixidores de Gràcia, Escola Xirinacs, Institut Escola Els 30 Passos and Institut La Sagrera Sant Andreu).
  • Major architectural works: Twelve major projects are being carried out at existing schools in 2025 (such as the Escola Prim and various schools in the Zona Nord) with an investment of nearly 6 million euros.
  • Investments at further education centres: Elsewhere, work on new centres includes the creation of the Institut d’FP Sanitària Sant Pau and the Institut de Gastronomia i Restauració de Barcelona, plus the move to their definitive bases for the Institut de Tècniques Audiovisuals i de l’Espectacle de Barcelona and the CFA Palau del Mar, and the future headquarters of the Barcelona Institute of Sport.
