Nearly a hundred venues to take part in Museum Night 2025
Museums and other spaces in Barcelona and the metropolitan area will be opening to the public on 17 May, offering free admission from 7 pm to 1 am and organising special activities such as concerts, video mapping and performances.
Museum Night 2025 comes to Barcelona and its metropolitan area with a programme that promises a cultural evening full of discoveries under the slogan “let culture guide you”. In all, 95 museums and cultural spaces will be taking part in the event on Saturday, 17 May, from 7 pm to 1 am, with most of them opening their permanent collections and temporary exhibitions. In addition, there will be up to 94 special activities such as guided tours, concerts, screenings, workshops and immersive performances. As with the previous edition, Museum Night 2025 comes on the same weekend as International Museum Day (18 May), established by the International Committee of Museums in 1977.
Museum Night is firmly established in the city’s cultural calendar and is held beyond Barcelona, including the municipalities of Badalona, Cornellà de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Joan Despí. This year, the initiative has some new additions, including Casa Batlló, Casa de la Barceloneta 1791 and the Museu de Matemàtiques de Catalunya (MMACA). Also returning are facilities that were not there in 2024, such as the Museu de les Aigües and KBr Fundación MAPFRE.
Various activities in addition to open evenings
Besides free admission, Museum Night offers a wide range of activities designed for different audiences. From a live painting session with a natural model at MEAM – European Museum of Modern Art to performances at Santa Mònica, a sound installation by Núria Andorrà at Museu de la Música, a video-mapping show at Museu Marítim de Barcelona and the theatre performance of Rojos at La Model. Different venues will be offering concerts and film screenings, such as those at La Virreina, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya and El Born. Museu d’Història de Barcelona.
A tour of temporary exhibitions
For those who prefer to enjoy exhibitions, Museum Night also offers access to a number of outstanding exhibitions. Among them, ‘La sala de les paraules’ at the Arxiu Històric de la Ciutat de Barcelona, ‘La romería de los cornudos’ at La Capella and “Amazons. The Ancestral Future” at the CCCB. Members of the public will also be able to see museums’ permanent exhibitions and collections, and the interior of buildings of great heritage and historical value, such as Montjuïc Castle, the different sites of the Museu d’Història de Barcelona, the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Pedralbes, the Sant Pau Art Nouveau, or the aforementioned Casa Batlló.
