The ‘Dones en Xarxa’ association wins the 25N Award with a project aimed at young people
The project "Preventing digital gender violence with AI” uses a purpose-built tool to analyse digital gender violence and promote young people’s adoption of this technology, facilitate reflection on its implications and generate collaborative content to transform the narratives and digital environments they take part in.

The jury considered that the project stands out for its capacity to use an AI tool to give visibility to data that demonstrate the reach and nature of digital gender violence, foster collective interpretation and make this phenomenon more understandable and tangible for society. At the same time, the project proposes specific tools that use technology, particularly AI, ethically and responsibly to promote gender equality in the digital realm.
The jury was made up of Raquel Gil Eiroà, Deputy Mayor for Social Rights, Economic Promotion, Work, Feminism and Democratic Memory, acting as the chair, Catarina Isabel Alves Vieira Da Cunha, secretary general of the Spanish National Women’s Council and expert in gender violence, Adriana Gil Juárez, doctor in Psychology and master in Social Psychology, associate professor with the UAB, Giulia Campaioli, doctor in Anthropology and Communication at the URV, and Lídia Arroyo Prieto, researcher with the gender and ICT group at the OUC and reading professor with the Department of Social Psychology at the UAB.
Goal of the award
This year’s 25N award has the slogan “Barcelona against digital gender violence” and has the goal of reflecting on the need to create safe and trustworthy digital environments, as well as tools for self-defence, skills-building and digital sovereignty for women, young people and teenagers.
The goal of the initiative is to offer economic resources and institutional support that facilitate the implementation of the winning project, which must be new or at the start of its implementation. The award carries a monetary prize of 15,000 euros.
Award ceremony
This year’s ceremony was held at the Cibernàrium and included an explanation of the roll-out of last year’s winning project, “The street is ours and the party too”, by the Altera association. Participating in the ceremony were the Fifth Deputy Mayor for Social Rights, Economic Promotion, Work, Feminism and Democratic Memory, Raquel Gil, the Commissioner for Social Action, Sonia Fuertes, and representatives for members of the jury.
Those attending the ceremony were able to enjoy an artistic intervention by the actress and creator Alícia Reyero, who also presented the event. The artist Lina Bautista was tasked with rounding off the ceremony with a musical performance.
Consolidated award
Barcelona City Council has been organising the 25 November award since 2005, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, within the context of the Citizen Agreement for a Barcelona free of violence towards women.
Every year, the chosen theme offers the possibility of public recognition for a project that tackles any of the spheres and forms of violence against girls, women and their children, and provides it with financial support. Whichever the theme, the key is to promote social changes in the relationship with any sort of gender violence.
