The Local Road Safety Plan follows the “Vision Zero” strategy to cut road accidents, the goal being to reduce the number of road deaths and serious injuries.

Together with the Local Urban Mobility Plan, these are the tools for planning mobility and road safety together to achieve fairer, more sustainable and efficient mobility, and to bring down the risk of accidents at the same time.
The new Local Road Safety Plan prioritises the prevention of accidents that cause the most serious injuries, specific measures for vulnerable people, resolving problems with the highest number of accidents and specific work in the case of fatalities.
The steps form part of what is known as a Safe System, which understands life and health as priceless, meaning there can be no compromise between mobility and safety and that shorter travel times cannot be linked to greater risks in road safety. The plan centres on five areas of action:
- Safe speeds
- Safe streets
- Safe vehicles
- Safe conduct
- Responses following collisions
The next steps will be the drafting of the Road Safety Plan for each of the city’s ten districts and for the ring roads.
