Demolition work under way at the Cinema Pere IV to build a hub for facilities

The new building replacing the former cinema will have three spaces: the Ramon d’Alòs-Moner Library, an auditorium and the extension to the CAP Besòs, which is set to double the current floor space at this primary healthcare centre.

The project is the result of an agreement with the Government of Catalonia to increase the space at the local medical centre from 1,500 to 3,000 square metres. The extension to the CAP will use the three upper floors of the new building, connecting with the existing building via a walkway.

The auditorium, conceived to remember the former cinema, will be housed in the basement and used as a multi-purpose space.

The library will no longer share space with the Besòs i el Maresme community centre and instead occupy the ground floor of the new building.

Calendar

The demolition of the former Cinema Pere IV will take four months. Work will then start on the new facilities building, which should be ready in 2026.

The conservation of the former Cinema Pere IV was not possible, owing to various structural problems, such as the carbonatation of beams, deficiencies in thermal insulation, a lack of fire protection elements, water filtration and serious shortcomings in accessibility.
