The Natural Sciences Museum and the various spaces it includes (Jardí Botànic, Centre Martorell d’Exposicions and the Parc del Fòrum site) present, as they do every year, their range of activities for the summer. The new program covers the dates between July 12 and September 7 and includes exhibitions, animations, virtual games, an escape room and also workshops for families. The schedules are quite extensive, and many tend to coincide with the opening and closing times of the various facilities.

Permanent exhibitions

Throughout this entire period, the 3 exhibits will continue to be open to the public:

1: Invisible Animals (Parc del Fòrum):

Inaugurated on May 17, it takes an intense and interesting journey through evolutionary history and discovers the most mysterious and “invisible” animals, either because they have become extinct or because they are very expensive to see or are still unknown. All of this to recognize them, defend them and understand them as an indispensable part of our world.

2: Wow. Museum Animals (Centre Martorell d’Exposicions):

Presenting the major work of the sculptor and taxidermist Antonio Pérez, a reference in this discipline, who has collaborated with the Parque de las Ciencias de Granada. The exhibition includes six scenes of Mediterranean and African animals and represents their natural behaviors. Among others, you can see a group of wild goats jumping in a stampede, two zebras fighting or a lioness hunting.

3: Natura o Cultura? (Centre Martorell d’Exposicions)

It takes a historical tour of natural history museums, from the cabinets of curiosities to the modern natural science spaces. All of this to propose a reflection on the relationship that is established between humans and nature. These two exhibitions located within the Centre Martorell d’Exposicions will be open until August 31.

Other activities

Among other new features this year, an Escape Room has been devised, a game of clues that takes place in the Centre Martorell d’Exposicions itself, as part of the exhibition Nature or Culture? There is only one session left, which will take place on July 14 between 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The activity begins with a disappearance within the museum that must be solved. It costs 11,50 euros and prior booking is required.

Furthermore, the Natural Sciences Museum reopened the Terrat Viu at the beginning of June, a large space of 7.100 square meters that houses some experiments, insect hotels, water ponds and a display of Mediterranean flora.

And inside the Botanical Garden, in Montjuïc, you can enjoy a Clue Game (Em roda el cap), a backpack with suggestions to discover the entire park in more depth and at your own pace, and also an interactive game (El misteri dels Salvador), which can be played online but must be completed collaboratively.

Activities for children

For the little ones in the house, the lobby of the Natural Sciences Museum keeps theNiu de Ciència Familiar. An experimentation space for boys and girls between 0 and 6 years old. This is a new scheme, which has a series of materials for children to experiment themselves, and awaken their curiosity.

Also at the headquarters, in the Parc del Fòrum, and within the framework of the exhibition “Invisible Animals”, a workshop will be held to develop a Flipbook, a technique that allows you to create page-by-page animations. This time and in this framework, it is designed for those over 7 years old and to devise new stories and designs about the rarest or extinct animals that can be observed in the exhibition.

On the other hand, the Museum opens a space with a careful selection of board games with content related to natural sciences. It is designed to be enjoyed as a family, and has guidance and explanations, if necessary, from an educator.  All activities, except Cluedo, are completely free.
