Ve de Barcelona, the city’s new shop for books and culture

Opening of the City Council’s new bookshop, which moves from the Sala Ciutat to El Born - Museu d'Història de Barcelona and also starts to offer cultural objects relating to the city. The shop brings together a selection of books, local design, local gastronomy and signature fashion, curated by the cooperative LaCapell and showcasing Barcelona’s creative talent.

The new shop, Ve de Barcelona, includes four sections, with books, design, gastronomy and signature fashion, the aim being to become a space promoting Barcelona’s talent and creativity.

Barcelona Llibres: dissemination and knowledge of the city

The establishment offers the titles of Barcelona Llibres, the  Barcelona City Council publishing house that releases some fifty books a year on architecture, urban planning, memory, arts, literature, ecology and visual culture.

Local design

Its selection of design objects follows criteria on quality, functionality and proximity, making it a significant showcase for creative talent from our part of the world, a role model for contemporary Barcelona design.

Local gastronomy

The shop includes food made by local producers, the aim being to give visibility to Catalan farmers and highlight the quality, sustainability and diversity of local gastronomy.

Barcelona Fashion Forward: promoting emerging fashion

The fashion section offers pieces by emerging designers linked to the programme Barcelona Fashion Forward, helping with the professionalisation of young brands through specialised training and support programmes.

Leading cultural and heritage environment

The location in El Born – Museu d’Història de Barcelona, one of the city’s heritage spaces, surrounded by intense cultural and commercial activity, strengthens the project’s aim to connect contemporary creativity with historical heritage.

The shop is housed in what used to be the bar/restaurant in the Mercat del Born, forming part of the Sala Castellví.

Opening times

  • Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10 am to 7 pm.
  • Sundays and public holidays, 10 am to 8 pm.
  • 26 December, open until 2.30 pm.
  • Closed: every working Monday, 1 January, 1 May, 24 June and 25 December.

Ve de Barcelona replaces and transforms the specialist bookshop in the Sala Ciutat, now closed, becoming a shop that not only offers books, but also design, gastronomy and fashion.
