Screening of Strawberry Fields and conversation with the artist Julia Montilla and the anthropologist and activist Gemma Casal, who researches social change in the rural environment and migratory processes. Her contribution will provide a complementary framework for reflection on the topics that pervade this piece in our local context.

Gemma Casal is an anthropologist and researcher who observes social changes in rural settings and immigration. She has been a member of the Catalan Ethnology Council of the Generalitat’s Department of Culture since 2015. Gemma is a feminist activist with Grup Feminista de Ponent and the Plataforma Fruita amb Justícia Social, which fights for the rights of migrant workers in the agricultural sector.
She has worked as a researcher and professor of anthropology at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili and at the University of Lleida. She has also been a researcher at the Centre for Rural Development Cooperation. In the 1990s, she worked with the brigades accompanying rural populations in Sandinista Nicaragua and later became interested in Mediterranean peoples, specifically in Syria.
