Casa Batlló - Pg. de Gràcia, 43

Author:
Sofía Crespo

True to its mission to carry Gaudí’s legacy into the future, Casa Batlló has once again invited a digital artist to map the building’s creative universe onto its façade. The chosen artist, Sofía Crespo, is a pioneer in combining biology and artificial intelligence in graphic and audiovisual work. Her project, titled Structures of Being, presents nature as an evolutionary process of infinite creativity and shows how it inspired Gaudí. Through her personal microscope, the artist offers us a contemplative journey through the evolution of life, immersing us in the materials, creatures, and natural phenomena present in Casa Batlló in a harmonious symphony that invites us to feel the profound beauty of existence.

The mapping features music by Robert M. Thomas, a renowned generative composer. Local performers such as organist Juan de la Rubia and the Cosmos string quartet are involved in the project.

The mapping will be projected for free on the façade of Casa Batlló on January 27th starting at 9:00 PM and on January 28th starting at 7:00 PM. Sessions will be offered every half hour until 10:30 PM. It can also be followed live on the entity's website.

Sofía Crespo is an Argentine visual artist who has pioneered the exploration of organic life and its evolution through artificial intelligence. Her work has been exhibited in institutions such as the Kunstverein Hannover (Germany) and the Fotomuseum Winterthur (Switzerland), as well as in public spaces such as Times Square. Crespo has received multiple awards, including the Falling Walls - Art & Science (2022) and the AI Newcomer Award, and has lectured for institutions such as MIT and the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Society. She is currently part of the artist duo Entangled Others.
