Res de Res

Is it circus, theatre or dance? A little bit of everything, because this Majorcan company uses all these disciplines to explore the limits we all share or that we impose on ourselves, and the struggle to free ourselves from them.

Perhaps you remember (remor), the show that Res de Res presented at Grec 2013, installing a tiny cell in Plaça de Margarida Xirgu to accommodate two performers and a handful of spectators. Well, this year, the claustrophobic space that this company, a pioneer in dance-theatre-circus, proposes is less physical than mental: it is the space marked out by the limitations and repressions that we are all subject to, whether by obligation or volition. Fuga appeals to the courage and bravery necessary to find oneself and, in this way, achieve freedom. Ropes, climbing walls, doors that lead nowhere and steps all form part of the stage set in this fusion of dance and circus. Using these elements, the company creates movements on vertical and horizontal planes that create remarkable, poetic images. A series of minimalist rhythms that create environments and textures provides the soundtrack to a show in which movement becomes a symbol for liberation.
