Calendar for commerce to open on Sundays and public holidays in 2023

Commercial establishments in Barcelona will be able to open on 8 January, 1 and 26 November and 3,6,8,10,24 and 31 December in 2023. In addition to these Sundays and public holidays, a further twenty dates allow for shops and businesses to open in the 26 neighbourhoods making up the main tourist zone.

Opening dates for public holidays have been agreed with the main organisations in the city’s commercial sector.

Main tourist area

Commercial establishments in the main tourist area will be able to open from 12 noon to 8 pm on the following dates:

  • 21 and 28 May
  • 4, 5, 11, 18, 24 and 25 June
  • 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 July
  • 6, 13, 15, 20 and 27 August
  • 3, 10 and 11 September

The neighbourhoods subject to regulation in this area are:

  • El Raval, Gòtic, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera and Barceloneta (Ciutat Vella)
  • Nova Esquerra de l’Eixample, Antiga Esquerra de l’Eixample, Dreta de l’Eixample, Sagrada Família, Fort Pienc and Sant Antoni (Eixample)
  • Sants, Hostafrancs and part of the neighbourhoods of Poble-sec and Font de la Guatlla (Sants-Montjuïc)
  • Les Corts
  • Sant Gervasi – Galvany and part of the neighbourhood of El Putxet i El Farró (Sarrià – Sant Gervasi)
  • Vila de Gràcia, La Salut, Camp d’en Grassot i Gràcia Nova and part of Vallcarca i els Penitents (Gràcia)
  • Baix Guinardó (Horta-Guinardó)
  • Vila Olímpica del Poblenou, Poblenou, El Parc i la Llacuna del Poblenou, Diagonal Mar and Front Marítim del Poblenou (Sant Martí)

The regulation applies until 31 December 2025 and is the result of the agreement reached by Fundació Barcelona Comerç, Barcelona Oberta, Pimec Comerç, Foment del Treball, Associació Nacional de Grans Empreses de Distribució (ANGED), UGT and CCOO in February, backed by Barcelona City Council and approved by the Government of Catalonia.
