B-COOL@HOME
Cooling homes for the elderly in Barcelona
The objective is to provide heat mitigation solutions that empower and enable older people to age with dignity at home within an urban environment, especially in the context of climate change.
Center: Institut de Salut Global de Barcelona
The B-COOL@HOME project investigates the relationship between heat exposure at home and the physical, cognitive, and economic capacities of older adults, as well as their health experiences and strategies for coping with heat. The methodology involves a mixed approach, combining environmental monitoring, climate models, and health questionnaires, along with focus groups and co-creation processes with participants. The project will unfold in two phases: an observational phase in 2025 focusing on temperature, humidity, and health symptoms, and an interventional phase in 2026 incorporating behavioral and low-cost technical measures to reduce heat. The expected results aim to improve the health and well-being of elderly people in the context of climate change.
