PROSIA-B
Risk and protective factors in suicidal ideation and attempts among the young population of Barcelona. Improvements for effectively addressing suicidal behaviour
The objective is to examine the risk and protective factors of suicidal behaviour (SB) among the young population aged 16 to 29 in Barcelona.
Center: Fundació Privada per a la Recerca i Docència Sant Joan de Déu
Suicide is the leading cause of unnatural death in Spain, particularly among young people aged 16 to 29, where it is the second leading cause after cancer. Despite growing interest in suicide prevention, there is a lack of research into the risk and protective factors of suicidal behaviour (SB), including both attempts and ideation. The PROSIA-B project aims to address this gap by focusing specifically on the city of Barcelona, known for its wide economic and sociocultural diversity. The study will analyse risk factors such as stress, loneliness, childhood trauma, and social media use, as well as protective factors like resilience and social support. Suicidal behaviours will also be mapped by district, prevalence rates will be calculated, and results will be compared by sex. The findings will help develop detection and prevention strategies tailored to the specific characteristics of Barcelona.
