UVIS SCREENING
Low-cost, multitest digital platform for vision screening in paediatric and adult populations
The objective is to develop an innovative, multitest, digital, and low-cost vision screening platform that integrates all essential tests into a single device suitable for any age group.
Center: Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya
Annual vision screening is key to preventing eye problems, but it faces major challenges such as lack of time, limited resources, and growing waiting lists in ophthalmology. In Catalonia, ophthalmology has the highest patient density on waiting lists, with an alarming 162% increase in Barcelona in 2024. These barriers hinder early detection of conditions like amblyopia, cataracts, glaucoma, or macular degeneration, which can lead to irreversible vision loss if untreated. The UVIS Screening project aims to develop an innovative, low-cost, digital multitest platform for vision screening. The device will enable essential tests for all ages and be accessible to non-ophthalmologist professionals, lowering costs and relieving pressure on the public healthcare system. In the long term, it will support early detection of vision problems, reduce visual impairment, and improve the population’s quality of life.
