Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia collaborate on a project to boost cinematic and audiovisual talent.

The Torre Avenir will be the new home of the Catalan Film Academy once renovation work is completed, as from September 2026. The Catalan government and the City Council are working together on a project that aims to turn the Muñoz Ramonet property in C/ Muntaner into a space for creation and cultural activity. The Torre Avenir, with access via the street of the same name, forms part of the heritage site at the Muñoz Ramonet property. With this new use, the institutions involved in the operation aim to boost Catalan film, contributing to its development and ensuring maximum protection.

The Catalan Film Academy brings together more than 650 professionals in various specialities within the sector. It is responsible for major events that give visibility to Catalan talent, such as the Gaudí Awards, a leading event on the national film panorama, and the Gaudí Cycle, which brings together Catalan film from all around the territory. New creators are welcomed at the scriptwriting residency and professionals in this sector in general can get support if they need it from the department against abuse, a pioneering measure aimed at preventing violence in the audiovisual sector.

Other activities by the institution include the academy discussions, consisting of meetings between film professionals and the general public, plus support for the recovery of film heritage.

The academy has so far been based at the headquarters of the SGAE, but at a time when the Catalan cinematic and audiovisual film sector has a strong creative ecosystem and an increasing presence at international film festivals and events, now it has its own permanent space with a public dimension which it can make use of under the management of the Fundació Julio Muñoz Ramonet. This also strengthens its role in driving and disseminating Catalan cinematic talent.

The renovation work starts in September and will be funded by Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia. The agreement forms part of the process to redefine the Muñoz Ramonet property, the aim being to put the building at the service of people and turn it into a space for creation and facilitation, a cultural reference point for the city as a whole.
