The transformation of the Anella Olímpica starts with the Sant Jordi Club

14/07/2025 - 13:31 h

Through an international architecture competition with a planned investment of 70 million euros.

Catalan audiences will be the main beneficiaries of this transformation as they accounted for more than 80% of the two million attendees at the 170 events held at the Anella Olímpica in 2024. Some 40% live in Barcelona or its metropolitan area.

The new Sant Jordi Club will boost the experience of live music and shows of medium format, thanks to a top-class technical design conceived to guarantee impeccable acoustics, maximum comfort, universal accessibility, energy efficiency and versatility of use. The venue will double its current capacity to 16,500 square metres.

The international architecture competition will look for innovative projects based around user experience and environmental sustainability. The venue will also have its own architectural identity, in harmony with the rest of the Anella Olímpic site and in particular with the Palau Sant Jordi, designed by the architect Arata Isozaki.

The call will be published on 17 July and candidacies may be submitted until 30 September 2025. Construction will begin in mid-2027 and the prevision is for the venue to be ready in 2029.

“New Montjuïc” project

In the next ten years, Montjuïc is set to become a large metropolitan park for the city, open to citizens, culture and sport. Besides the transformation of the Anella Olímpica, the project includes the renovation of Plaça Espanya, the Fira site, the Jardins and Palau d’Esports and the arrival of the L2 metro.
