More than one million visitors went to the Museu Picasso Barcelona, the most visited site, followed by the Museu d’Història de Barcelona and the Castell de Montjuïc.
Municipal museums and exhibition spaces received a total of 3.8 million visitors in 2025, more than one million of whom (exactly 1,021,500) visited the Museu Picasso Barcelona, making it once again the city’s most visited municipal museum.
However, it is not the only site attracting locals and visitors passing through the city. The Museu d’Història de Barcelona, with centers throughout the city, recorded a similar figure (949,500), slightly lower, as did the Castell de Montjuïc, a heritage site and exhibition space, which welcomed 696,000 visitors.
Among the exhibitions that attracted the highest number of visitors were Growing Up Between Two Artists. Tribute to Claude Picasso (254,855 visitors) and From Montmartre to Montparnasse. Catalan Artists in Paris (1889–1914), seen by 209,915 people. Both exhibitions were held at the Museu Picasso. At DHub, the most visited shows were Designing a Revolution: The Chilean Way to Design (48,754 visitors) and Miguel Milà. (Pre-)Industrial Designer (35,912). At the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona, the exhibition Invisible Animals attracted 54,906 visitors (December data pending), while Nature or Culture, at the Centre Martorell d’Exposicions, was seen by 40,246 people.
Among the most visited exhibitions across the city, Now I Sing for Myself at the Museu de la Música stood out with 41,652 visitors (December data pending).
Overall, municipal exhibition centers received 181,500 visitors, of whom 112,000 attended La Virreina Centre de la Imatge and another 112,000 visited La Capella on Carrer de l’Hospital. Other sites included La Fabra Centre d’Art Contemporani (9,500 visitors) and the Arxiu Fotogràfic de Barcelona (8,000).
These figures also take into account the merger of the Museu d’Història de Barcelona and the Born this year. In addition, visits to the Born (765,000) and other heritage sites such as the Temple of Augustus and the Mercat de Santa Caterina (432,000) are included.
Total tourist numbers in the city increased slightly, although overnight stays decreased, limiting opportunities to visit museums and exhibitions.
Regarding the composition of visitors, it is estimated that one in four visitors to municipal museums and exhibitions were residents of the city, while visitors from the rest of Catalonia accounted for 30 percent of the total. Among visitors from outside Catalonia, the region contributing the most visitors was Madrid (31 percent), followed by the Valencian Community (13 percent) and Andalusia (12 percent).
As for international visitors, Europeans accounted for 55 percent, the United States for 20 percent, Italy for 11 percent, and France for 9 percent.
