48h Open House BCN Festival Returns
Build Your Festival!
Window, balcony, hallway, fireplace, staircase, elevator, columns, arch, door, installations, furniture... Following the previous edition that spotlighted the various trades that make architecture a collaborative and global endeavour, the 14th edition of the festival aims to play with the elements comprising Barcelona's rich architectural collage and unearth the micro-narratives that can be extracted from building details.
The interest lies in "deconstructing" the architecture in our imagination, a solid entity with significant presence, with the goal of both identifying its underlying principles and glimpsing the fields of knowledge that architecture professionals possess.
This is a playful, free festival open to everyone, with no ticket sales, offering over 150 activities without prior registration. The waiting time to access each building varies depending on its size and the number of people wanting to enter. Therefore, they provide the public with a map showing, in real-time, the spaces with higher and lower visitor numbers. Additionally, they share this information live on our social media.
Domènech i Montaner
Furthermore, part of the programming of the 48h Open House BCN Festival in this edition is organized around the year of Domènech i Montaner. The festival features representative spaces designed by this architect to explain his multifaceted career as a reflection of total art: a work in which ceramists, mosaic artists, sculptors, glassworkers, and blacksmiths all participated.
Barcelona Design Week 2023
This year, the festival joins the celebration of the 18th edition of the Barcelona Design Week and its global initiative to promote SDG number 18: treating design as a key element for the present and future of people. The festival will highlight a project like BUILDING 18 for its values and the significance of design in its definition and execution, as well as its stance towards the community and the city as a whole.
