Ballet de Barcelona, a new company, premieres at the Onyric Teatre Condal

Under the artistic direction of Chase Johnsey, the troupe will dance classical pieces and a world premiere.

Our city deserves congratulations, since it is going to be the headquarters of a new classical dance company, the Ballet de Barcelona. This is a young, dynamic troupe of dancers from all over the world who excel for their technique, versatility and virtuosity. It was created under the artistic direction of Chase Johnsey, a dancer with a long history at Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, as the First Artist in the English National Ballet in 2018, as the Best Male Dancer in the National Dance Awards in the United Kingdom, and a nominee for Best Male Performance in the role of Paquita. To celebrate its creation, they have devised a programme made up of several classical pieces in the first act and a world premiere in the second. On the one hand, audiences will enjoy pieces like “Bluebird” and “Jewels” from Sleeping Beauty, Le Corsaire and Death of the Swan performed by Johnsey himself. The second act will feature the premiere of Together, a choreography by Antonio Carmena created especially for the Teatre Condal and the Ballet de Barcelona with the goal of showcasing the talent and potential of the troupe, which is embarking upon a new stage in a bid to bring high-quality dance to the capital of Catalonia.

You can see the Ballet de Barcelona show from 14 to 16 June at 8 pm at the Onyric Teatre Condal. Plus, the performances will feature the presence of Antonio Carmena, a choreographer and former soloist with the New York City Ballet, with whom audiences can enjoy the US-based Balanchine dance style.

All tickets cost €30. You can buy them on the theatre website.
