The best ways to enjoy European Music Day
We would like to propose a number of concerts on a day in which music takes pride of place
21 June is European Music Day. Of course, we all know that you don’t need a specific day to enjoy and celebrate music: it’s there for us at any time and on any day of the year. But at a time when the music industry is far from flourishing suffers from a number of difficulties involving everything from excessive VAT charges to the need for a paradigm shift, it’s more essential than ever to support the artists working in the sector. So, European Music Day is an opportunity for music fans to go to concerts and buy records. And the first step is to get out and get involved. Here are a few proposals.
Like every year, the OBC will bring its season to an end with a free concert on Barceloneta beach, right next to Hotel W, with a programme featuring works by Shostakovich, Nyman, Prokofiev and Ravel, along with a performance of the Song of the Birds. Another interesting performance is scheduled to take place at Fabra i Coats in the shape of a series of talks on music and three concerts featuring indie-pop and world music sounds with Mourn, Sean Nicholas Savage and Nakany Kanté. There will also be an interesting mini-festival organised by També és molt interessant el minifestival que organitza la FNAC at Plaça de les Glòries featuring Young Fathers, Ibibio Sound Machine and cantaora Rosalía, accompanied by Raül Refree, to present her debut album Los Ángeles.
This is only a small selection of the musical treats on offer. May the music be with you.
