Carminho and Júlio Resende, headliners of the Festival de Fado Barcelona 2024
With the theme "Fado and Freedom," the festival celebrates a new edition in Barcelona, offering not only concerts but also free parallel activities to deepen the understanding of Portuguese culture.
Barcelona will once again enjoy Portuguese culture from October 20 to 24 with a new edition of the Festival de Fado Barcelona, featuring the best artists of the genre. The festival includes concerts as well as additional activities such as film screenings, exhibitions, and lectures, which are offered free of charge during the festival days.
The headlining artists of this edition are Carminho, who has performed in Barcelona on several occasions, and Júlio Resende, who will be performing for the first time.
Carminho, daughter of the renowned fadista Teresa Siqueira, arrives at L'Auditori de Barcelona (October 24, 9 p.m.) to present her new album Portuguesa. Tickets are already available, priced between 25 € and 55 €.
Júlio Resende will perform in trio format at CaixaFòrum Barcelona in Montjuïc (October 20, 7 p.m.) with tickets at a single price of 15 €.
The Festival de Fado is an international event that this year celebrates a new edition and takes place in 18 major cities across Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Each year, it showcases artists in concert and promotes the Portuguese language and culture through exhibitions, conferences, and screenings of films and documentaries about this iconic musical genre of Portugal.
This year, the festival's theme focuses on "Fado and Freedom," coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution in April 1974.
The festival's free activities, such as the screening of the film The Consul of Bordeaux and the conference by Rui Vieira Nery, Fado and Freedom, will take place on October 23 at Llibreria Byron (Casanova, 32, 08011 BCN).
