Celebrating Raval's Culture
A score of free activities across six different neighbourhood locations will take place during the Raval(s) Cultural Festival from November 9th to 12th.
Everything is set for a new edition of the Raval(s) Cultural Festival, with over twenty years of history, powered by the Tot Raval Foundation. This event is a collaborative socio-cultural project within the neighbourhood, representing a process of artistic, community-driven, and participatory creation to promote the involvement of residents and various organisations. If you want to explore and experience Raval's life, do not hesitate to visit the festival spaces from November 9th to 12th.
The activities have been collectively prepared by hundreds of entities, associations, cultural and educational centres, groups, and public services in the Raval neighbourhood to create a diverse socio-cultural and artistic program with musical performances, talks, tours, workshops, exhibitions, artistic interventions, plays, and more. The festival starts on November 9th with three activities on Rambla Santa Mònica.
This year's edition focuses on emerging music with the participation of local bands. A concert at Paral·lel 62 will feature the Barcelona Marching Band, Alquimistas, Sara Aldana, and Koyam Project, with a special collaboration by the guest artist JOKKOO (B2B DJ set). The musical program also includes a choral performance by local schools and a day of concerts in the Plaça dels Àngels.
The festival dedicates a space to women with a series of activities that align with feminist perspectives, as well as organizations working with women. This year, there is also a focus on family-oriented activities to create more inclusive and intergenerational leisure spaces. Specifically, there will be an interactive storytelling experience for families at the MACBA Documentation Centre. Additionally, there are activities for young people, including radio, rap, photography, basketball, and archaeology.
Theatre enthusiasts can enjoy "Un Tenorio Diferente," created by the Món Raval Group in collaboration with AIPCC and the Josep Trueta Senior Citizen Centre. There is also a production titled "La Dona Voltor," directed by Joan Xancó, as part of the Historical Memory cycle at Sala Fènix.
The event highlights the diversity and richness of popular cultures in the neighbourhood through workshops, gastronomy, music, and dances. You can also enjoy a tasting session to promote cultural exchange at the 9th Sopes d’Aquí i d’Allà! Festival, as well as a section to boost urban gardens in Raval. There will even be a space dedicated to craftsmanship and local commerce, as well as a meeting of community festivals on the peripheries where the community plays a significant role.
You will be able to explore and discover the neighbourhood's diversity and richness through a wide range of guided tours and routes. You can enjoy guided tours of public spaces at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Institut Català de les Dones, the Traditional Music Foundation IMF-CSIC, or the "Retratos de barcos" exhibition at the Museu Marítim. You will also find itineraries such as the decolonial route of La Traginera and Santa Mónica, a route with the Filmoteca de Catalunya through the neighbourhood, routes with migrant neighbours, and a tour of Gypsy memory and Catalan rumba.
Venture into the Ciutat Vella neighbourhood to discover the artistic and cultural diversity hidden within, thanks to the collaborative work of various collectives, agents, entities, and associations. The activities are open to all (some require prior registration), and regarding the schedules, you can check them in the program. For more information, please visit the Fundació Tot Raval website.
