In recent weeks rumours have been heard regarding the closure of some of the city’s most emblematic establishments. In an attempt to provide an opportunity to rediscover and appreciate this particular heritage, a tour of some of the city’s most characteristic businesses has been programmed for the 22nd of February.

The tour lasts about three hours and begins in the Eixample. The meeting point is located in front of Casa Batlló, from where the tour will continue to the intersection of Carrer Roger de Llúria and Carrer València, where a visit will be paid to the Murrià grocers and, a little further down, the Ferrer Argelaguet chemists. Following this, tour participants will take the metro to Ciutat Vella, where they will visit several different types of establishment and in which either the owners or those entrusted with the businesses will present a short introduction to the history of the enterprise. Businesses will include music shops, such as Casa Parramon, instrument makers since 1897, and Casa Beethoven, specialists in musical scores and sheet music.

On the Raval side of the Rambles, participants will pay a visit to one other establishment, the historical bakeries Escribà, before continuing on to the Gothic quarter side of Ciutat Vella to take in Roca, the famous cutlers, herbalists Herbolari del Rei and the curiosity shop El Ingenio, an veritable emporium packed with toys and juggler’s paraphernalia from another era. Before crossing the Via Laietana, the tour will take in chandlers Cereria Subirà and, continuing on to the Ribera quarter, Casa Gispert, master roasters of nuts, dried fruits, herbs and spices, as well as the magic shop El Rei de la Màgia, on Carrer Princesa.
