Josep Maria Subirachs

A chance to see the complete works of Josep M. Subirachs

A newly opened art gallery in Poblenou is offering the chance to explore the extensive oeuvre of the one of the greatest artists working in sculpture and drawing of the Barcelona of the mid 20th century

Josep M. Subirachs is especially well-known for his involvement in the construction and decoration of the Sagrada Familia from the 1980s on. Since Antoni Gaudí died before he was able to define the doecrative details of the temple, Subirachs was commissioned with interpreting his wishes and was responsible for many of the figures on the building's façade until his death at the age of 87 in 2014. But that was only part of the work of this untiring artist who left a creative legacy that can now be explored in depth thanks to an exhibition in a newly opened gallery in the artist's home neighbourhood of Poblenou. Espai Subirachs hosts a permanent collection that is open to art students and the general public.

The gallery can be visited for free throughout 2017 and you'll find a host of drawings, designs, draughts and layouts that Subirachs went on to use for his sculptures and paintings. Here, you'll see that he was a figure whose legacy extends far beyond his involvement with the Sagrada Familia, in a place that is ideal for reflecting on and investigating the work of an exceptional artist.

You'll find more information on the Espai Subirachs website.
