Culture Against Barbarism
Palau de la Música hosts a tribute to Palestinian culture.
Music, dance, theater, poetry... all come together to celebrate the culture and existence of a people currently enduring one of the darkest moments in their history—subjected to relentless bombings and a humanitarian crisis, with many, including children, suffering from hunger due to the blockade of aid. In the face of this barbarism, Palau de la Música will host "Palestine. Culture is Resistance" on Thursday, June 5, an event that both honors Palestinian culture and raises funds.
In fact, the 5-euro ticket price will go directly to UNRWA (the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East), which provides vital assistance to Palestinian refugees, including education, healthcare, humanitarian aid, and social services. The event is organized by the Ferrer Social Justice Foundation, UNRWA, NOVACT, the Palestinian Community of Catalonia, Oxfam Intermón, and the Catalan Association for Peace.
Among the featured performers are Mohamad Bitari, a Palestinian poet, translator, writer, and journalist from Syria now based in Barcelona; Athrodeel, a musical group whose name means “My Land” in Aramaic; dancer and choreographer Fadi Waked, trained in Syria; theatrical readings from the Gaza Monologues, live illustrated by Nadia Hafid; and the poetry of Fadwa Tuqan, voiced by Mar Casas and accompanied by Cristina Pérez on clarinet.
From the stage, the artists invite you not only to celebrate and remember a culture with deep historical roots, but also to use these cultural expressions as a reminder of the ongoing reality, presence, and suffering of the Palestinian people.
The performance will last approximately two hours, without intermission, during which the artists will present a dialogue between tradition and modernity—between an ancient culture and the present day—seeing art as a language of peace and solidarity.
If you too wish to honor the Palestinian people and show your support with your presence, don't miss "Palestine. Culture is Resistance"—but be sure to check the Palau de la Música website for all event details.
