December's documentary captures the battle of Moroccan women for basic rights

The documentary, named Mothers, is directed by Myriam Bakir.

The last film of the year proposed by DocsBarcelona is taking viewers to Morocco. Mothers, as the film director Myriam Bakir named it, explores and explains the role of Oum El Banine, an organization led by Mahjouba Edbouche that fights against a silenced reality in the country and in favour of women's basic rights. As of now, sexual relations outside marriage are a criminal offence in Morocco, and a woman can be sentenced to prison if she gets pregnant without being married. In addition, abortion is illegal in virtually all circumstances. Bakir's documentary chronicles this reality and the support that Oum El Banine provides to women, offering them a home, emotional care and legal assistance until the moment of childbirth, which are tasks that face a multitude of obstacles. Throughout the film's 60 minutes, there are also images of parents of pregnant girls who deny the reality and refuse the help offered by the organization.

Mothers will be available to watch in multiple places in Barcelona throughout December. On the 2nd, it will be screened at Cinemes Girona, and on the 10th, at Lluïsos d'Horta. On the 15th, at the Biblioteca Esquerra de l'Eixample - Agustí Centelles and at the Auditori Sant Martí. The day after, at the Centre Civic Ateneu Fort Pienc, and on the 20th, at the Teatre de Sarrià, where it will also be screened on the 29th. If you want to watch the documentary at Casa Elizade, it will be available on the 21st December. In addition, both the Biblioteca Vilapicina i La Torre Llobeta and the Auditori de Sant Martí will offer the chance to watch it online.
