‘Horizon’

'Horizon' by Santiago Vélez and Jenny Owens

This exhibition at the Tasneem Gallery includes works that reflect on the divisions imposed by human beings themselves.

The Tasneem Gallery is kicking off its 2019 season with  'Horizon', an exhibition that is arriving direct from PontArte in Maastricht, in which Santiago Vélez and Jenny Owens tackle the concept of horizons, both in the artistic and cultural sense. While we all know what a horizon is in principle, we all have our different ideas about what the word represents and in this exhibition each of the artists approaches the concept from a different perspective. Velez’s contribution is based on his ongoing work on refugees and people who are looking for a better future, which here takes the form of water obstacles that act as barriers, while Owens has opted to focus on representations of Tarifa, a city that witnesses a constant migration of both people and birds and the meeting place for the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.

The exhibition 'Horizon' can be seen at the Tasneem Gallery on Thursday and Friday afternoons from 17 January to 28 February. The exhibition can also be visited at other times by appointment.

Admission to the exhibition is free. Additional information is available from the Tasneem Gallery website.
