From Fado to Jazz with Júlio Resende
El Molino hosts the concert Fada Jazz, by one of the great phenomena of Portuguese music today.
Music of our times that draws on tradition. This is the musical trend all over the world in the last years and it is a possible description of the music made by Júlio Resende, one of the great artists of the current Portuguese music that will be at Molino on the 9th of January.
You will like it if you are fond of jazz or pop-rock, two rhythms that Resende combines to perfection with the traditional sounds of the most typical music of Lisbon, a fado that this artist converts into a modern day sound without losing the essence of the past.
He began, in fact, playing jazz with his piano. He has recorded eight albums and has never ceased to venture into unknown territory in order to explore the possibilities of his music. It was out of this love of experimentation that Resende began to reinterpret popular classics on the piano. He brought fado to the piano register and thus managed to give a new dimension to songs by greats of the genre such as the great Amália Rodrigues, considered the queen of fado, in the album Amália por Júlio Resende (2013).
The musician's willingness to experiment, however, does not end here, but continues in jazz experiments in trio or quartet or with pop-rock proposals such as the one he created with Alexander Search, inspired by the work of the poet Fernando Pessoa.
Poetry and music have also met in the music of the author, who has recorded albums such as Poesia Homónima (2016), as have the acoustic and electronic universes, which have coincided in his latest album, Cinderella Cyborg, an experience of interaction between human beings and machines.
Now, Resende brings together tradition and modernity on stage once again, in a concert entitled Fada Jazz, in which he will be accompanied by the Portuguese guitar of Bruno Chaveiro.
