GATCPAC guide: debates and conferences on art and design

The Miró Foundation and the Design Museum come together in the organization of these activities from the 13th to the 20th of April

Coinciding with the publication of Arquitectura d’avantguarda a Barcelona. Josep Lluís Sert i el GATCPAC, a map and guide designed to promote the architectural heritage that GATCPAC (Group of Catalan Architects and Technicians for Progress in Contemporary Architecture), and its most famous member, Josep Lluís Sert, have left behind them in Barcelona, the Joan Miró Foundation, and Barcelona’s Design Museum, together with the El globus vermell association, are organising a series of debates and conferences.

The first event scheduled will take place on the 13th of April at the Miró Foundation. Under the title Modern Movement and Contemporary Art, diverse questions will be addressed including the presentation of the map-guide by El globus vermell, the presentation of a photography project at Casa Bloc by Irene Visa and a talk titled Domènec: an artist specialised in modern architecture.

On the 20th of April, a talk on GATCPAC and furniture design will be held at Barcelona’s Design Museum. This session will address the group’s interest in the functionality of objects, using as examples the furniture designs that the group sold at their own store, MIDVA. Taking part will be Mònica Piera, a Doctor in Art History and the president of the Association for the Study of Furniture; Mercè Vidal, Doctor in Art History; and Juli Capella, architect and design expert.
