Lorca, according to Pasión Vega

The singer from Madrid inaugurates a new edition of Guitar BCN, which will see performances by Paula Mattheus, Zaz, Andrés Calamaro, Judit Neddermann, Nacho Vegas, Sílvia Pérez Cruz and Joe Santriani.

On 27 January at 9 pm, the Palau de la Música Catalana will host Pasión Vega's Lorca sonoro, the first of a new edition of Guitar BCN. According to the organisers, this year's festival is "more egalitarian and plural than ever", with more than 40 concerts of different styles in different venues around the city.

After 20 years of career, Pasión Vega travels the sound map of Federico García Lorca through the paths of music and words. And she does so with a very special album, the tenth of her career, recorded live and with the luxury collaborations of Rozalén (Por tu amor me duele el aire), Carmelo Gómez (Gacela de la muerte oscura), Elvira Sastre (Romance de la pena negra) and Juan José Téllez (Ojos verdes and Romance sonámbulo). For the singer, "Lorca was a scholar and a Renaissance man". He was also a musician because "he composed the melodies of his plays", "incorporated coplas and tonadas" and "imprinted music on his poems, introducing parts as if they were little refrains" that give the necessary guidelines to be able to interpret them.

Guitar BCN will continue with an intense February: there will be concerts by the Alaskan-born Argentinian musician Kevin Johansen, who will present Tú ve (on the 1st at 8:30 pm, at the Teatre Coliseum); Jenny & The Mexicats, who will perform the Caribbean rhythms and mixed sounds of Fiesta ancestral (on the 3rd at 9 pm, at Apolo [2]); and Paula Mattheus, who will perform songs from her latest album, Mi concierto en el balcón (also on the 3rd, at 9 pm, at Razzmatazz 2). Also on the programme for the second month of the year are Christina Rosenvinge, Ismael Serrano, Second, Núria Graham, Maui, Tulsa and DePOL.

Until 29 June the city will be able to enjoy the talent of artists such as Pastora Soler, Judit Neddermann, Zaz, Elena Gadel, the former member of Txarango Sergi Carbonell, Nacho Vegas, Ana Mena, Suu, Triquell, Els Amics de les Arts, Silvia Pérez Cruz, Joe Santriani and Andrés Calamaro, many of whom will be releasing new albums. Guitarist Steve Hackett will close Guitar BCN 2023 with a concert at the Teatre Coliseum as part of his tour commemorating the 50th anniversary of the release of the Genesis album Foxtrot.
