Mata Duquela Swing Band

The Harlem Jazz Club resumes its season with swing, blues and soul

After a week off, the venue will reopen with Chino Swingslide, Mata Duquela and Virginia & The Woolfs.

After getting through the latest heatwave, Harlem Jazz Club will resume its activity on August 26 with a new blues and early jazz jam session led by Chino Swingslide (guitar and vocals) and Hernán Fridman (bass). For this occasion, the Argentinian duo, who are now residing in Barcelona, will be accompanied by six more musicians. It will be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy internationally renowned artists on a local stage. Swingslide himself is a regular on the European jazz festivals circuit and one of the few bluesmen of the continent to play regularly in the United States.

On Friday, 27 August, they are both coming back; however, this time, they will do so as the opening for another formation. Mata Duquela is a difficult band to classify because, despite having started with swing and early jazz, they have gone into unexplored musical paths that have led them to folk, tango and Latin music. The rhythm and skill of the members — Swingslide and Fridman, who will play with Mariano Olivera (guitar) and Pol Padrós (saxophone) — won't leave anyone unsurprised.

On Saturday, 28 August, Virginia & The Woolfs will prove why they are considered one of the best soul bands in the city. They have a repertoire that revisits African-American artists including Mary Wells, Etta James, Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin, with nods to Amy Winehouse, Duffy and Imelda May. The band is lead by Virginia Vi, joined by Brian O'Mahony (guitar and voice), Dara Luskin (bass and voice) and Marcos López (drums).

The capacity of the venue is limited, with doors and the bar service opening at 8 pm, and seat allocation working on a first-come, first-served basis.

Prices range from 10 euros for the jam session on Thursday to 14 euros for the rest of the days. You can get your tickets through each of the concerts' links on the program website, or you can book them directly here.
