Generation Z on stage

Fifteen European artists aged 18 to 24 are proposing a new cultural and content consumption model that puts the activism of digital natives at the forefront.

The Centre d'Arts Digitals IDEAL is a space where art, technology and science come together to create new audiovisual content in which the spectator is the main character. This creative laboratory is housed in the building of the former Ideal cinema, which was active between 1917 and 1985 before being transformed into a TV set and recording studio.

Since 2019, IDEAL's goal has been to research, experiment and create immersive content using XR technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, holography and 360 degrees. The centre also collaborates with several Barcelona universities, startups, and artists in the learning and production of new immersive audiovisual projects.

This is the context for the Active Activism Act, a pioneering exhibition by and for Generation Z, which gives visibility to new forms of digital activism through new formats of disclosure, dissidence, protest and vindication on issues relevant to the youth, as this manifesto lays out.

The exhibition has been co-created and co-organised by ELISAVA and the consortium of cultural agents VIBE, with the participation of fifteen individual and collective activists aged 18 to 24 from seven European countries: Samantha Hudson, XRebellion, Kai Landre, Mabel Olea, Affirmations, Neuro Dungeon, DOES Salon x Joey Levenson, Émergent Magazine, Maria Appleton, Dahli B. Ball, Joppe Venema, Eirini Kalogera and Azeema Magazine, No Signal Mix, Tashinga Matewe and Understanding Humanity by Noé Etó and Julen Beloki.

Samantha Hudson will energise this experience and accompany the spectator through a WhatsApp chat. The visitor will add Samantha as a contact on their phones, and she will share voice notes, stickers, videos screenshots and texts from all the platforms and technologies used daily by young people, such as TikTok, Spotify, Instagram, and YouTube.

Active Activism Act will be inaugurated on 25 April at 8:30 p.m. with a concert by Kai Landre broadcast in 360º streaming. At the ripe age of 20, thanks to a self-designed technological seventh sense, the artist has been able to perceive noises of the cosmos and turn them into music. In IDEAL, he will present MUON, an audiovisual and sound journey that goes "from the Big Bang to the present". You can book your free ticket at this link.

Among the free performances, you will also find NeuroDungeon's live e-rave on the 28th at 8:30 p.m. and the performances of the dancer Mabel Olea I love you, I hate you on the 25th (from 12 to 3 p.m.), on the 28th (from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.), on the 30th (from 5 to 8:30 p.m.) and on 1 May (from 4 to 7 p.m.); Requiem. The Lesson with laSADCUM, on the 26th (from 5:30 to 8 p.m.); Itsvataphm with Amaga (from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.); and visualCompost 4juna with María Jurado and Baz Cuervo, on the 29th (from 4 to 8 p.m.). You can get your free pass here by selecting your specific time slot.

The Active Activism Act exhibition will be available to visit in person until 1 May and online until 30 May. We recommend a visit time of approximately 90 minutes to complete the tour of the seven rooms and to arrive 5 minutes before the reserved time slot, although once inside, you can stay for as long as you wish.
