Independent Cinema "made in America"
A festival dedicated to productions from the United States will be held from 11 to 16 March in different venues around the city.
If you are interested in independent visions of the world in which we live, those that show us unusual aspects and are not the most usual ones that can be seen on commercial screens, you have an appointment with the newest North American independent cinema in a festival, The Americana Film Festival, which, this March, brings to the screens of the Girona, Texas, Zumzeig and Phenomena, as well as the Filmoteca de Catalunya, around forty feature films of the most diverse genres, as well as a long list of short films.
Among the proposals presented this year by the Americana Film Festival, the inaugural film, In the Summers. It is a creation by Alessandra Lacorazza that was the big winner at last year's Sundance Film Festival (Grand Jury Prize for Best Film and Best Director). The cast includes the rapper Residente and trans actor Lio Mehiel (Mutt). In the film, we will meet a family, the story of which we will follow in a fragmented way during different summers.
Among the other proposals presented at the festival, Saw the TV Glow, by Jane Shoenbrun. With many nominations and winner of the Audience Award in the Panorama section of the Berlinale, it is about two teenage fans of a horror series in the nineteen-nineties.
The retrospective section will be dedicated this year to the New York gay and Jewish artist Ira Sachs, who will present a retrospective of all his feature films in Barcelona. Collaborating in the cycle is the Filmoteca de Catalunya, which has recognised the interest that films such as Keep the Lights On, Summer in Brooklyn and the recent and acclaimed Passages have aroused among followers of American independent cinema.
