The invention club
Every Monday, the Ignasi Iglésias-Can Fabra Library hosts the Maker Club +12, a space for creativity and digital knowledge aimed at young people aged 12 to 14.
In just twenty years, the Internet and digital technologies have burst into all areas of society to the point of transforming our lives from top to bottom. The digital revolution we are living through is also leading to new forms of knowledge and opening a lot of possibilities to find innovative solutions to small and big challenges. This has allowed the maker culture to spread with the incorporation of new digital skills and precisely to deepen them, the Ignasi Iglésias-Can Fabra Library hosts, on Mondays until 9 May, the Maker Club +12 sessions in English, within the framework of American Space Barcelona, which are aimed at young people between 12 and 14 years old and are based on the Design Thinking methodology.
American Space Barcelona is the result of a collaboration between the Barcelona Library Network, the Sant Andreu District and the Consulate General of the United States in the city. Its aim is to create a space in which the public can broaden their knowledge in order to face the technological and social challenges of this century. Moreover, it does so in English, in order to improve the command of this language in a transversal way. In the case of the Maker Club +12, the workshops are led by Cristina Valero, from CosiCosa, a collective that promotes creativity and critical thinking through emerging technologies.
The sessions are aimed at broadening horizons in the fields of electronics, the Internet of Things or robotics, and invite participants to understand their foundations as well as to design and create intelligent objects using, for example, devices such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi. Creating these objects may require custom-made parts. Given this need, 3D printing and manufacturing techniques are opening many doors to the maker community, and the library workshops will offer the possibility to delve deeper into them. Likewise, programming and the development of algorithms are other skills that can be expanded at the club and that will allow these devices to be equipped with automatisms, functions and prepare them to respond to certain stimuli.
If you are between 12 and 14 years old, join the Maker Club +12 to create your own inventions. More information on this link.
